A Restaurant in Fort Collins

the moot house

We hope that the genuine feeling of hospitality someone feels at the Moot House reminds them of the great community that they are a part of. I think that the Moot House is a very unique business in Fort Collins. We have been involved in the community since 1972, making us one of the oldest running restaurants in town! We served Odell Brewing Company’s first beer in a restaurant establishment! Moot House was Steve Taylor and Scott McCarthy’s first venture, and the two continued to grow and open staple restaurants in the community. Above all, I think that the Moot House embodies the culture and hospitable nature of this wonderful community.

Advocates hope the legislature revives an SB 9 clean-up bill proposed last year by Sen. All material is intended for informational purposes only and has been obtained from public records, MLS, or other sources believed to be reliable, but not verified. All prospective buyers should conduct a careful, independent investigation of the information and property, and consult with appropriate professionals, such as appraisers, architects, civil engineers, etc. In the case of SB 9, that stated intention was improving housing affordability. After the 9th Circuit ruled on Grants Pass, putting the city’s law on hold, a bunch of other lawsuits built off the ruling. But U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor, in a 27-page decision Thursday, dismissed allegations against state education officials and leaders of the Lake County school district.

Purchased in 2019 for $9,495,000, the suburban Atlanta property is anchored by a 15,000-square-foot main house with 8 bedrooms, 9 baths, and all the bells and whistles you can expect. Even Candell acknowledged that a simple clean-up to SB 9 could render the Los Angeles court’s decision moot. Passed in 2021, SB 9 allows single-family homeowners to split their lots in two and build two homes on each lot — allowing up to four units in each lot previously zoned for just one. In the session on electoral reforms, John Cushnahan, former member of the European Parliament, recounted his experience in Pakistan leading the election observation team.

Located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac behind massive iron gates, the private estate first wows visitors with its mature trees and manicured lawns. The Rock’s house is set in Beverly Park, Los Angeles’ most exclusive neighborhood, home to countless A-listers. The ultra-exclusive enclave is home to some of the richest stars alive and is governed by an HOA with very hefty fees ($3,300/month). The house sits on 3.67 acres of land and is considered to be among the largest (and most private) properties in the neighborhood.

Not only are there legal reasons why the decision might have little bearing on California’s homelessness policies, she writes; the court could also decide the case is now moot because of an Oregon law overruling Grants Pass’ onerous ordinance. Five California cities have won a lawsuit against the state over SB 9, a law passed in 2021 that effectively abolished single family zoning statewide. Winsor’s ruling Thursday does not resolve the First Amendment allegations against the Escambia school board but allows the case to move forward. He acknowledged questions about how the First Amendment applies to such school book issues.

Barrister Khadija Siddiqi said 105 civilians had been tried in military courts after May 9 and the conviction rate was 100pc in secret trials conducted by the army officials and untrained judges. In a session, Baloch rights activist Mahrang Baloch stressed the importance of parliamentary and judicial interventions in resolving the issue of the missing persons for real democracy to thrive. She talked of the threats faced by families of the missing persons and condemned the murder of Balach Maula Bux, labelling it a blemish on Pakistan’s judiciary and military. She was disappointed to see that the participants in the sit-in for the Baloch missing persons who travelled from Turbat to Islamabad were not given a proper hearing even after the general election. She demanded an end to military trials of the civilians and lifting of all restrictions on the internet, asking the political parties to form a consensus on a charter of fundamental rights to ensure protection of rights of citizens. Virtually every other city has so-called time, place and manner laws that regulate when, where and how people can exist unhoused, and those are not at issue in Grants Pass, she pointed out. But the case made it to the Supreme Court, where Sotomayor didn’t mince words Monday when she said Grants Pass is “not about fires. It’s not about tents,” attacking the perception that the 9th Circuit injunction stopped cities from enforcing laws against dangers such as, say, camping the middle of a freeway or lighting a bonfire next to a preschool. Five Southern California charter cities need not worry about lot splitting in their single-family zoned neighborhoods thanks to a Los Angeles County superior court ruling on April 22. Four Southern California cities are calling SB9 unconstitutional in the fight to retain local control over zoning codes and housing density.

“Upon arrival, I encountered a hostile reaction, including from the ECP,” he added, saying that team’s early arrival was perceived as an attempt to catch pre-election rigging, contrary to expectations of a smooth election day. My takeaway is that if the Supreme Court dives into a ruling about involuntary homelessness, it will be the conservative majority allowing more leniency for government, without allowing the criminalization of homelessness itself. That’s why local governments hate Grants Pass — most don’t have enough beds, and therefore have to worry about whether they will be sued for making rules, or worse, have courts make them.

A California property owner took El Dorado County to state court after paying a traffic impact fee he felt was exorbitant. He lost in trial court, appellate court, and the California Supreme Court denied review. Impressive as his Atlanta-area property might be, The Rock tried to offload it two years after buying it — and was even willing to take a big loss from the sale. But our favorite out of all of Dwayne Johnson’s houses is the massive 46-acre equestrian estate he owns in Powder Springs, Georgia.

A Los Angeles County judge has ruled that the California law abolishing single-family zoning across the state is unconstitutional. Passed in 2021, SB 9 allowed single-family homeowners to split their lots in two and build a home on each or convert their homes to duplexes, regardless of local zoning. At the heart of the case is local authority and what gives the state the right to interfere.

Saying the stakes could not be higher, Newsom to speak at Vatican climate summit

A controversial housing law that abolished single-family zoning across California has been ruled unconstitutional by a Los Angeles County judge — but the narrow ruling is likely to be appealed by the state. The Beverly Hills Estates fully supports the Equal Housing Opportunity laws. The Beverly Hills Estates makes no representations, warranties, or guaranties as to the accuracy of the information contained herein, including square footage, lot size or other information concerning the condition, suitability or features of the property.

Then it got sued on 8th Amendment grounds that this was de facto making homelessness itself a crime, because the options were freezing to death or getting out of Grants Pass. “We are talking about a community that doesn’t have shelter, doesn’t have the thing other communities have,” Antonia Fasanelli, executive director of the National Homelessness Law Center, pointed out . By the end, it seemed to me Grants Pass was about one city going too far, and politicians who need a boogeyman in an election year.

The case has played out amid controversy in Florida and other states about school officials removing or restricting access to books. As a sign of the controversy, Gov. Ron DeSantis last week signed a bill aimed at limiting book challenges filed by people who don’t have children in public schools, saying some people who filed mass objections to books made a “mockery” of the process. “And Tango Makes Three” tells the story of two male penguins who raised a penguin chick at New York’s Central Park Zoo. But pro-housing advocates say the judge’s ruling relies on a narrow definition of housing affordability.

The reality is that in places like Los Angeles, it doesn’t really matter what the justices decide. No one is going to start arresting and incarcerating people for simply needing a place to sleep because that doesn’t fix anything, and would likely not be politically popular anyway. Its population has doubled in the last few decades to 40,000, but its housing stock has not. There is less than a 1% vacancy rate, and at least 600 homeless folks.

Faced with the “involuntarily homeless” group, lower courts and municipalities tried to figure it out with lots of confusing rules. Grants Pass tried to argue Monday its ordinances were for everyone, not just homeless people. “There is nothing in Grants Pass that says governments can’t have reasonable laws,” Pastore said. Lafayette City Council Member Susan Candell penned an op-ed in support of a lawsuit to invalidate Senate Bill 9 by four Southern California cities, highlighting a recent supportive court filing by UCLA economic geographer Michael Storper.

His Insta page is a treasure house of precious moments with his family, especially his youngest daughters, Jasmine and Tiana. What really makes this estate fit for a (scorpion) king are the top-notch amenities. Adding to the Mediterranean vibe are a series of ivy archways, an eye-catching red-tiled roof, airy balconies, and covered loggias. There are also many gates for easy access in and out of the property. The stunning olive tree-lined driveway leads to a pea gravel motor court that features a stone fountain.

There is also only one privately run shelter, and to be real, it sounds terrible. It requires twice-a-day churching; bans sex, pets and other things people like; and makes residents do chores for hours a day with no pay. If you read any news, or even secretly get your worldview from TikTok, you’re already sick of hearing about Grants Pass and how the outcome of this case will forever determine how we deal with homelessness. That’s Sonia Maria Sotomayor, first Hispanic justice on the court and a lady you don’t want to mess with, as the lawyer for Grants Pass found out (the justices on Monday heard oral arguments in City of Grants Pass, Ore., vs. Gloria Johnson). They also received a capital preservation grant from the New Jersey Historic Trust, an affiliate of the state Department of Community Affairs, for $60,607. That means the society will have to spend money first, before receiving money from the state. We love going up the canyon to spend the day fishing, hiking, or floating the river. Fort Collins offers an amazing variety of craft breweries (Odell Brewing Company in particular) which we really enjoy visiting during nice afternoons. Winsor, however, ruled that the plaintiffs did not have legal standing to pursue claims against state Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. and members of the State Board of Education. Nevertheless, Winsor wrote that the plaintiffs “have plausibly alleged First Amendment claims” under two legal standards.

In California, the constitution requires that state laws impeding cities’ local control must demonstrate a reasonable relationship between the legislature’s stated intention and the design of the law. Meanwhile, a separate federal lawsuit filed against the Escambia school board by plaintiffs including authors, the publishing company Penguin Random House and the free-speech group PEN America also continues to play out. District Judge T. Kent Wetherell, stems from removals or restrictions of various books. It’s also possible, as news columnist Anita Chabria notes, that the case could turn out to be a big nothing.

A 3 hour delay is already bad but one that has you arriving in the wee hour is just disruptive and overall unacceptable. The complete lack of restitution is a joke in keeping with Spirit’s reputation of ranking bottom-low in the pecking order. I liked the piloting of the aircraft. Very disappointed about lack of electrical ports. There was enough time to hand out snacks to comfort + seats as was done for first class.

The Southwest travel experience

The process of buying the ticket and navigating all the hidden charges that Frontier throws at you was a terrible experience. The actual airport experience and flying was fine. Sort of wasted our first day of vacation. We left Pittsburgh at 630am and did not arrive in Mexico until late dinner time.

Then they switched my wife's seat again at the gate. I wish we didn't have to pay extra and that they didn't move us around. We purchased our tickets under the same reservation and this shouldn't happen. Flight was to arrive at midnight and it arrive at 3 am.

Probably not AA fault but caused a 1 hour delay. I suspect i caught flu on this flight as i could hear someone coughing a few rows back and ended up with flu a few days later. Also tiresome to have to watch movies on my device by holding up smartphone screen, would have liked to have in seat display. I would fly again the whole experience was great. The only feed back I can give that they don't do that American Airlines does is the crew there is more humorous with boarding and thank their passengers. It makes it more fun to fly with them.

He refused to pay this extra $50 charge and tried to do check-in online by himself but it seemed to be late with only 7 mins left. It ended up that my daughter and my husband missed the 7-minute time window. They had to take the next non-direct flight which took more than 12 hours from Las Vegas to San Francisco, a very poor experience for them.

I almost lost the ticket because of the hassle. I had trouble finding a boarding pass because I had an hour between Flights and American did not see my flight I believe because I was ticketed through KAYAK. I paid extra to have more legroom and it is definitely worth it for a six hour flight. I would’ve paid for a decent dinner, but they didn’t offer anything but a snack box —not good for six hours. Our original business class flight was cancelled so we not only downgraded but we were also spread out across the plane not sitting together in separate middle seats. My poor kids were scared and couldn’t see me on the flight and the crew wasn’t sensitive to the situation and what the airlines did to us.

— Over 3,000 Duke Energy customers are without power in Mecklenburg County following Tuesday's severe weather outbreak, according to the company's outage map. Tens of thousands of outages were reported in the Charlotte area on Tuesday, as storms swept across the Carolinas. At one point, more than 3,700 outages were reported in the Claremont area in Catawba County. According to Catawba County Communications, one person died around 1 p.m. Along Evening Drive, located south of Old Catawba Road.

The latest reports from users having issues in Charlotte come from postal codes 28202, 28233, 28203, 28205, 28277, 28269, and 28273. As of Sunday at 8 p.m., power had been restored to most of the homes in Charlotte that were without power. However, there are still around 100 customers without power as of the last update. Duke Energy said the estimated restoration time in these areas is 5 p.m. At the height of the storm Tuesday afternoon, there were more than 76,000 customers in the Charlotte area without power and around 120,000 throughout the state. Officials reported at around 5 p.m., over 8,000 people were without power in the Hickory area.

Outages begin

Multiple crews responded to a crash that knocked down a utility pole and power lines along Freedom Drive near Alleghany Street early Friday. Both directions of Freedom Drive are expected to be closed until after 2 p.m. While Duke Energy works to repair the utility pole and power lines. For the latest breaking news, weather and traffic alerts, download the WCNC Charlotte mobile app and enable push notifications. Over 17,000 people are without power across North Carolina with the majority of those outages being reported in the eastern part of the state, including Jacksonville, Fayetteville and Raleigh.

According to Duke Energy, the power lines that came down were a primary line, which means the company had to take some additional customers offline in order to fix it. The power has since been restored, but at its height, at least 6,000 Duke customers were  impacted by this power line damage. (QUEEN CITY NEWS/PINPOINT WEATHER) – As severe weather rolled through our region Monday evening, outages were being reported by Duke Energy. More than 850,000 customers lost power during the storm. As of Saturday morning, crews completed nearly 500,000 restorations; more than 400,000 in North Carolina and 76,000 in South Carolina.

Tuesday, the map below shows Duke Energy’s outage report across the Carolinas. Duke Energy said it does not expect to have to use rolling blackouts again Tuesday night. “Whether you lost power from interruptions in service or conserved energy to help others, we are deeply grateful for your patience and understanding,” said Daniel Fain, Carolinas manager grid operations. A checklist serves as a helpful guide, but it's critical before, during and after a storm to follow the instructions and warnings of emergency management officials in your area. If your home or business is flooded, Duke Energy cannot reconnect power until the electrical system has been inspected by a licensed electrician. If there is damage, an electrician will need to make necessary repairs and obtain verification from your local building inspection authority before power can be restored.

The piedmont will see storms later, but most of the activity will remain along and north of uptown Charlotte. WCNC Charlotte has reached out to Duke Energy for further comment on the outages. The cause of these outages is currently unknown, according to Duke Energy. First responders are struggling with high call volumes as cold temperatures cause pipes to burst in homes across the Carolinas.
